2-Year-Old Dies After Found In Car On Sweltering Summer Day: Police

SCRANTON, KS — A toddler died after being found in a car in Kansas amid sweltering temperatures over the weekend, according to reports.

Emergency personnel were called around 3:30 p.m. Sunday about a 2-year-old who was discovered unresponsive in a vehicle in the tiny city of Scranton, according to the Osage County Sheriff’s Office. First responders immediately took life-saving measures and the child was rushed to a Topeka-area hospital but was later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The 2-year-old had entered the car on their own, rather than being left inside the vehicle by someone else, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal, which reported a temperature of 90 degrees and a heat index of 101 degrees in Topeka around the time the toddler was found.
