The Kansas Department of Revenue and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment plan to waive fees for vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses as well as replacement of birth and marriage certificates in aftermath of fires that spread March 5 into those two central Kansas counties.
“We want to ensure that we are not adding to the stress these Kansans are facing right now,” Kelly said. “My directives will help speed the recovery process by allowing those wildfire victims to replace their important documents quickly and begin the rebuilding process.”

The waivers at the revenue department apply to penalties associated with late vehicle registrations, fees for replacement of vehicle titles and related documents, the cost of temporary licenses to drive and fees paid for copies of tax documents for previous years.
In addition, KDHE was directed to waive fees for one-time replacement of marriage and birth certificates and waiver of state tonnage fees at landfills for disaster debris. In addition, permits for disposal of destroyed structures, debris or livestock would be expedited.
