City Of Overland Park: Community Survey Results Show High Levels Of Satisfaction With OP

The results of the latest citywide survey, out this week, show Overland Park residents are overwhelmingly satisfied with the City’s services, amenities, programs and image.

Ninety-two percent of Overland Park respondents were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the City’s overall quality of life.

Ninety-seven percent said Overland Park was an excellent or good place to live.

Ninety-six percent said the City was either an excellent or good place to raise children.

The City surveyed 1,302 people from across Overland Park in May and June, via mail, phone and a secure online portal.

The survey measures the level of satisfaction residents have with City services from public safety to traffic congestion, customer service, maintenance of city streets, enforcement of city codes and much more.

City staff and elected officials compare results with previous years, neighboring cities and peer cities across the nation and analyze results for areas where services can be improved.

“In spite of several years of uncertainty, the survey shows Overland Park residents continue to support their City and the services we provide,” said Mayor Carl Gerlach. “The survey did show, like it always does, that there are areas that we, City leadership, need to address. These areas will need to be considered and discussed in the months ahead as City leadership changes.”

For example, the level of satisfaction with maintenance of City streets fell from 70 percent in 2018 to 59 percent in 2021. Earlier this year, the City Council approved creation of an Infrastructure Advisory Group to address street maintenance and similar issues, including funding sources.
