TOPEKA β€” A group of about 25 supporters of President Donald Trump gathered Wednesday afternoon in the Statehouse in a peaceful demonstration as violence erupted at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Participants in the gathering say they don’t want to be held captive to a fraudulent election system, repeating baseless claims perpetuated by the president about a rigged election. They also expressed skepticism about the severity of COVID-19, with few wearing a mask.

They mostly milled around the first floor rotunda as a single speaker addressed the crowd. There did not appear to be Capitol Police in the area.
