Get your mulch: Christmas tree recycling begins in Sedgwick County (ksn.com) — Wichita residents can now recycle their live Christmas trees at multiple city drop-off sites, then return later for free mulch. Sedgwick County is also running more than a dozen additional locations in nearby towns, giving Wichita-area households plenty of convenient options to keep trees out of the landfill this season. 
2. Wichita Thunder game postponed as ECHL players go on strike (kwch.com) — Wichita Thunder fans saw Friday’s home game called off after ECHL players went on strike, and future games could be affected until a deal is reached. League officials tout a major pay and benefits offer, while Thunder players say they’re fighting for living wages, better healthcare, and safer conditions for themselves and the wider Wichita hockey community. All missed games will be rescheduled.
3. Is it legal to brake check a tailgating driver in Kansas? Here's what the law says (kansas.com) — If you’ve ever been tempted to “brake check” a tailgater in Wichita, local police say it could land you a ticket for inattentive, careless, or even reckless driving. Kansas law doesn’t name brake checking specifically, but it does prohibit driving that endangers others, and troopers instead urge drivers to safely change lanes or pull over to let aggressive motorists pass.
4. Goddard seeks volunteers to keep senior meal program going between contracts (ksn.com) — Wichita-area seniors in Goddard could briefly lose meal service unless volunteers step up between providers in early January. The Goddard Senior Citizens Advisory Board will run meals at the senior center and for homebound residents and is asking Wichita-area individuals, churches, and businesses to donate time or food by calling board chair Amanda Treadwell.
5. Kwanzaa celebrations kick off in Wichita with dancing and drums (ksn.com) — Kwanzaa festivities are underway in Wichita, bringing residents together with food, music, drumming and dance to celebrate African culture. Local leaders emphasize that Kwanzaa is a cultural, not religious, observance focused on seven principles like unity and cooperative economics. Performers such as The Griots use traditional West African djembe drums to help connect Wichita participants to a broader African diaspora community.
