📰 News we're reading

• Roaches, old olives, filth, chemicals by food at Wichita restaurants, motel (kansas.com) — State inspectors recently cited several Wichita restaurants and a motel for issues like improper food temperatures, hand-washing lapses, roaches and other sanitation problems during Dec. 14-20 inspections in Sedgwick County. Most locations corrected issues quickly, but six failed and will be reinspected soon. Residents can review inspection results online or file complaints about local food and lodging conditions.

• KWCH Meteorologist Jake Dunne turns health scare into global running mission (hutchpost.com) — KWCH meteorologist and Wichita native Jake Dunne turned a frightening 2024 medical emergency into motivation to complete seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. He used the challenge to raise money and awareness for Wichita-based anti-trafficking nonprofit ICT SOS, and continues forecasting Kansas weather while coaching local runners and advocating for survivors.

• Man hospitalized after 30-foot fall from tree in Arkansas City (ksn.com) — A 37-year-old man who fell 30 to 35 feet while trimming a tree in Arkansas City was airlifted to Wichita for hospital care after suffering non-life-threatening leg and lower-back injuries. Because the accident happened just blocks from the fire station, crews quickly moved him to a nearby field for the flight, underscoring how regional emergencies often route serious cases to Wichita facilities.
