At approximately 1:22 A.M. on January 24, 2022, a Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy observed the driver of a red Lexus commit a traffic violation near the intersection of Pawnee and Meridian. The deputy attempted to stop the Lexus and the driver fled in the vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes with the top speeds reported near 70 MPH. The pursuit ended when the Lexus became high-centered in the parking lot of the Regency Inn at 6125 W Kellogg Drive.
Â
The 26-year-old male driver shot at the pursuing deputy and two deputies returned fire. No one was struck by any of the gunfire. The suspect then fled into an occupied room at the Regency Inn. One of the occupants of the room was able to communicate with motel staff and eventually law enforcement through a messenger app. Eventually, the occupants of the room walked out on their own.
