• Balloon release held for Indianapolis man killed in shooting at Kentucky State University (fox59.com) — A 19-year-old Kentucky State University student was fatally shot and another critically injured on KSU’s Frankfort campus on Dec. 9, and the suspect is now charged with murder and first-degree assault. Family and friends in Indianapolis honored victim De’Jon Darrell Fox Jr. with a large balloon release, remembering his upbeat spirit while they continue seeking justice for what happened in Frankfort.
   

• Hopeful harvest: Conservation group encourages hunters to help feed families (spectrumnews1.com) — Frankfort-based state wildlife officials are urging Kentucky hunters to donate extra deer to Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry, turning surplus venison into meals for families statewide. With more than 6.4 million meals already served and over 70 processors participating, the volunteer-run program helps fight hunger, supports conservation, and manages the state’s growing deer population.
   

• DEI debate returns to Frankfort, focused on K-12 education (fox56news.com) — A new round of debate at the Capitol in Frankfort is targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in Kentucky’s K-12 public schools. Lawmakers are previewing a 2026 bill that could scale back DEI initiatives statewide, with Republicans questioning their effectiveness and Democratic legislators and educators defending their role in student belonging and achievement.
