Saint Joseph hospital removing barriers for patients (spectrumnews1.com) — A new community paramedicine program at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington is working with the city’s fire and emergency services to keep high‑risk patients from landing back in the hospital. Community paramedics and a social worker now visit Fayette County patients at home, connect them with free resources regardless of insurance, and say they’ve prevented about 80% of potential readmissions so far.
   

2. Police warn of rise in financial scams targeting vulnerable residents (wtvq.com) — Lexington police are warning residents about a recent rise in financial scams, especially those aimed at vulnerable people. Officers stress they will never call to demand payment for warrants or jury duty, and any prize offer requiring upfront payment via cash, gift cards, or Bitcoin is a scam. Suspected victims are urged to contact Lexington police or file online with the FBI.
   

3. Man allegedly steals cash from ATM being serviced in Lexington (fox56news.com) — Lexington police are asking for the public’s help after a man reportedly stole cash from an ATM being serviced on Georgetown Road on Dec. 13. Officers shared a brief description of the suspect and are urging anyone with information to contact Lexington Police or submit an anonymous tip to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
   

4. A dream carved from wood (kykernel.com) — A longtime Lexington resident has turned his backyard shed into a full-time wooden toymaking workshop after retiring from Kroger, fulfilling a dream decades in the making. Dave “Kaz” Kacmarcik, who grew up here after moving as a child, now crafts handmade trains, trucks, and puzzles that he hopes will be passed down through generations and spark kids’ imaginations.
   

5. Lexington volunteers serve home-cooked meals to those in need (fox56news.com) — Neighbors in a Lexington community spent the holiday preparing, packaging, and delivering more than 80 free home-cooked Christmas meals to local families and unhoused residents. Volunteers say the grassroots effort has grown quickly over its three years, reflecting both rising food insecurity and the neighborhood’s determination to make sure everyone is fed and included.
