New Lexington restaurants opening in 2026: Downtown changes as south side grows (kentucky.com) — If you love eating out in Lexington, 2026 will bring a wave of new options, from Carson’s Back Porch downtown to Shibam Coffee near UK and new spots on the booming south side. Major hotel and High Street renovations, new groceries like Publix and FoodChain’s neighborhood store, plus chains such as Wawa and Teriyaki Madness are also reshaping everyday food and shopping choices.
   

2. Lexington pediatrician who saw patients in her home to hang up her stethoscope (kentucky.com) — A beloved Lexington pediatrician, Dr. Rebecca “Bos” Bosomworth, is retiring in April after decades of caring for local children, first at Westside Pediatrics and more recently from her home near Keeneland. Her story traces a horse-centered career that led her to medicine, her uniquely homey practice with animals and a giraffe growth door, and the insurance and workload pressures that finally pushed her to hang up her stethoscope.
   

3. Gun assaults drop significantly in Lexington over four years (wkyt.com) — Gun assaults in Lexington have fallen sharply, from 135 cases in 2021 to 49 in 2025, according to city police data. Local groups like Voyage Movement and H.E.A.R.T.S. credit youth-focused programs and emotional support for helping teens avoid violence, but say they’re pushing to reach more kids and partner with more churches in the new year.

Jerry Gumm leads Richmond Road Baptist Church service for first time since July 13 shooting (lex18.com) — A longtime Lexington pastor has returned to the pulpit at Richmond Road Baptist Church for the first time since a July 13 shooting there killed two women and injured two others, including him. After months of hospitalization and rehab, he’s preaching again while his family and congregation continue grieving loved ones and coping with reduced attendance.
   

5. Natalie's Sisters partners with DV8 Kitchen during Human Trafficking Awareness Month (lex18.com) — A Lexington nonprofit, Natalie’s Sisters, is teaming up with DV8 Kitchen in January to collect warm twin-size blankets for sex-trafficked and sexually exploited women in the city. Residents can drop off new or gently used blankets at DV8’s Lexington locations during regular daytime hours, while the partners also work to raise awareness that human trafficking is happening locally, often in less visible ways.
