Medicaid recipients who want to avoid losing their health insurance coverage should make sure they update their contact information with the Louisiana Department of Health or their Medicaid provider.
The state will start a massive Medicaid disenrollment process in April, when federal COVID-19 pandemic protections for Medicaid recipients begin to wane. Louisiana estimates approximately 280,000 to 350,000 Louisiana residents will be dropped from the state Medicaid rolls over the next 13 months as a result of this change.
Since 2020, the federal government has given states financial incentives to let millions of additional people obtain Medicaid coverage because of the threat of the pandemic, but those benefits are coming to an end later this year. People with household incomes that have surpassed thresholds Medicaid allows will lose their health insurance.
People who don’t verify their contact information will also be at risk of losing their health care coverage, even if they still meet the income threshold. Those who need to update their contact information can do it the following ways:
Online: MyMedicaid.la.gov
Email: MyMedicaid@la.gov
Phone: Call the number on their health care plan identification card; or call the Medicaid Customer Service Center at 1-888-342-6207, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
