(nola.com) β€” New Orleans and nearby parishes are gearing up to collect thousands of Christmas trees in early January to help restore marshes in Bayou Sauvage and Lafitte. City residents get curbside pickup Jan. 5–9, with special rules for the French Quarter and Downtown, while Jefferson Parish offers both curbside and drop-off options plus a Jan. 24 volunteer marsh project.

New Orleans 3-1-1 data shows improvement on abandoned vehicle complaints (fox8live.com) β€” New Orleans has cut its backlog of abandoned vehicle complaints, with about 3,000 of 7,447 3-1-1 requests still pending, compared to 4,700 a year ago. Residents on Kerlerec Street say abandoned cars remain an eyesore, while the city cites new staff and contracts to speed removals and auctions.

Fogbow amazes locals near New Orleans lakefront during Christmas stroll (wwltv.com) β€” Some New Orleanians strolling along the lakefront over Christmas were treated to a rare β€œfogbow,” a ghostly white arc that looks like a pale rainbow. Meteorologists explain it forms when sunlight passes through tiny fog droplets, and WWL is inviting locals to share any photos they captured.

Grassroots volunteer group helps feed families during Operatation Catahoula Crunch (fox8live.com) β€” A small volunteer group called Ángeles de NOLA is crisscrossing the New Orleans metro area, including New Orleans East, delivering food, toiletries, and toys to immigrant families afraid to leave home during a federal immigration sweep. Working out of a Metairie warehouse and fueled by donations, the all-volunteer team has already helped hundreds of families and plans to continue daily as long as support lasts.

Jeff Landry is explaining his new role as President Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, where he says he’ll discuss quality of life and opportunities with residents. A Dillard University analyst notes Trump’s long-standing interest in the mineral-rich island and calls Landry an unusual choice, since governors rarely serve in such foreign policy roles.
