At the same meeting, officials approved funding repairs for used State Police cruisers and began planning 2026 firefighter wage adjustments tied to Maine’s rising minimum wage.

Jay-area school district defends transgender sports policy as public continues debate (sunjournal.com) — Residents of Jay and neighboring towns packed the latest RSU 73 board meeting to challenge the district’s transgender sports policy and the growing legal costs tied to defending it. Jay taxpayer Jane Costa highlighted how much of her property tax bill funds the district, while board members stood firmly by the policy, citing fairness, safety and national polling in support of their stance.
   

3. Franklin County commissioners still getting stipends removed from budget (sunjournal.com) — A Franklin County commissioner from Jay is among three still receiving a health stipend that was removed from the 2026-27 county budget six months ago. After legal opinions confirmed the Budget Advisory Committee’s authority, commissioners are considering a resolution to stop accepting the $6,845 annual benefit retroactive to July 1, aiming to repair relations and stabilize future county spending.
   

4. UMF Women's Basketball soar past Husson Eagles (dailybulldog.com) — A hometown connection shone as Jay’s own Jaydn Pingree poured in 26 points to help UMaine–Farmington women snap a years-long skid against Husson. Pingree dominated the fourth quarter at Dearborn Gym, while teammate Jessica Dow added 21 points and 12 rebounds in the 78–67 win.
