City Of Portland: Payson Park And Lyseth School Playground Updates
Construction is planned to begin in mid June of this year if bidding and approvals occur as planned.

February 22, 2022
Two large-scale renovation efforts are in the planning and design process for the Park Department. Lyseth community playground is working with a local landscape architecture firm to get technical drawings finalized for planning approval and site work bids this spring. Construction is planned to begin in mid June of this year if bidding and approvals occur as planned. The playground site work will focus on creating a double looped asphalt path, install new drainage improvements to resolve long standing water puddling issues, and provide new play equipment.

The second renovation will be occurring at Payson Park’s Toddler Playground. Work here will replace existing equipment with new facilities, upgrade the existing splash pad with new sprays and a resurfacing, and create an agility course feature for all ages. If funding permits, a new trail segment will be created for a short loop around the play area, some new plantings and rearrangement of boulders will occur, and an area for picnicking and gathering will be created for the playspace. The fencing is planned to be kept, with some improvements for better maintenance access.

We greatly appreciate the input from the public on the early planning phases for these efforts, particularly the Friends of Payson Park and Susan Lavigne for Payson Park, and Lenore Williams, Lyseth School Staff, Lyman Moore Special Education Staff, Portland Parks and Rec staff and Corey Dunfey and Jessica Parrott and the Lyseth PTA.
