Partnering on Wabanaki Studies with Portland Public Schools (maineaudubon.org) — Portland Public Schools has completed and begun using a comprehensive Wabanaki Studies curriculum from pre-K through grade 11, with extensive local fieldwork built in. Partnering with Maine Audubon and Wabanaki advisors, students visit places like Mackworth Island, Baxter Woods, and Gilsland Farm to connect Indigenous history, culture, and the local environment with what they learn in class.

2. Several Subway franchise locations in Maine shut down over registration issues (wgme.com) — If you rely on the Subway at 6 Allen Ave. in Portland, be aware it’s among several Maine locations suddenly closed after state officials revoked the franchise’s business registration. Employees across the affected shops, including Portland and nearby towns, say they haven’t been paid and are waiting for answers while the company calls the shutdown temporary.

3. Maine is down another trauma center. What does that mean? (pressherald.com) — Portland’s Maine Medical Center is now one of only two trauma centers left in Maine after Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston dropped its certification this month. That shift could mean more critically injured patients and longer ambulance trips into Portland, potentially delaying care. Officials say maintaining Portland’s Level I trauma status is costly but essential as statewide hospital finances tighten.

4. Jonathan Bush removes campaign ad featuring Portland police training (sunjournal.com) — Portland residents should know a Maine gubernatorial candidate pulled a campaign ad after the Portland Police Department said training footage in it could be mistaken for an endorsement. The department stressed it does not back any candidates, while the candidate criticized Portland city councilors over their stance on policing and pledged changes if elected governor.
