Police ID Person Killed In Woodward Road Shooting In Portland

The 43-year-old man was killed Tuesday when an argument among several people ended in gunshots, police said.

PORTLAND, ME — A man killed in an early morning shooting on Portland's Woodford Street on Tuesday was identified by police on Thursday.

Derald Coffin, 43, of West Bath was killed when an argument among several people ended in gunshots, police said. Around 1 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Woodford Street, where they found Coffin and a 27-year-old woman in the roadway. Both had gunshot injuries, according to police.

Officers provided first aid until Coffin and the woman could be taken to the hospital. Coffin later died from his injuries, police said, while the woman's injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Police did not release the woman's name. A medical examiner is still determining the cause and manner of Coffin's death, police said.
