South Portland, ME Police: Holiday Lights Don't Belong on Moving Cars (wokq.com) — South Portland police are reminding residents that while holiday lights look great on houses and parade floats, they’re illegal and unsafe to use on moving vehicles under Maine law. Decorative strings, underglow, and blinking ornaments can distract drivers and obscure brake lights and turn signals. Enjoy going overboard on your home display, but keep your car lighting strictly street-legal this season.
   

2. These Maine places get lit for the holidays (pressherald.com) — One of the brightest holiday stops this year is Laberge Lights on Pitt Street, a longtime South Portland landmark now packed with more than 50 light-up characters and a towering maple tree of lights. The display, inspired by Mill Creek Park and expanded during the pandemic, offers a free, walk-or-drive-by winter wonderland. The article also lists other standout home light shows around southern and central Maine.
   

3. Mail delivery complaints pour in from more Maine communities after South Portland resident speaks out (wmtw.com) — South Portland’s Knightville neighborhood is seeing serious mail delays, with at least one resident reporting only a single day of delivery in four weeks and growing worries about missed bills. After his story aired, Mainers from several other towns reported similar problems, including delayed paychecks and medications, while postal officials cite staffing shortages and have yet to offer a clear fix.
   

4. Monks Women Sweep Relays, Break Three School Records at USM Alumni Open (gomonks.com) — Two South Portland athletes, sprinter Ava Smart and jumper Olivia Bean, helped Saint Joseph’s College women’s track shine at the USM Alumni Open, with Bean setting a school triple jump record. The Monks swept both relays, broke three school records, and posted multiple New England Division III provisional qualifying marks in a strong early-season showing in Gorham.
   

5. Maine Gov. Mills will allow bill that limits police cooperation with ICE to become law (wmtw.com) — A South Portland lawmaker, Rep. Deqa Dhalac, sponsored a new Maine law that limits when local police and jails can cooperate with federal immigration agents, and Gov. Janet Mills will let it take effect without her signature. Supporters say the change will protect immigrant communities and clarify that local agencies should focus on serious crimes, not routine immigration enforcement.
