End of Operations For Chemical Materials Agency

The U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency will hold an end of operations ceremony on Thursday on Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency will hold a formal ceremony Thursday to mark the completion of a stockpile disposal mission.

The end of operations ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the Chemical Demilitarization Training Facility (CDTF) in the Edgewood Area of . It is open to the APG workforce.

The Chemical Materials Agency disposed of about 90 percent of the government's chemical agent stockpile. That surplus included 27,000 tons of chemical nerve and blister agents and 2.3 million munitions and bulk containers, according to a statement from the agency.

The mission was completed on January 21.

The Edgewood Area of APG was a chemical agent storage area after the Edgewood Arsenal was used as a chemical warfare production and research center.

Other centers under the agencies watch in the last 15 years include those in Hawaii, Arkansas, Alabama, Oregon and Utah.
