New Program Pushes Advanced Placement Classes

Havre de Grace and Aberdeen high schools will benefit from the program.

Students and educators at and high schools soon will have access to a grant-funded program to push higher education and consistency in curriculum for students in military families.

on Monday will unveil the Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program (APTIP), which is administered through the National Mathematics and Science Initiative (NMSI) and the Initiative for Military Families (IMF).

and are the only two schools in the state to be awarded the opportunity, after 29 schools in 10 states in Fall 2011 and four schools in 2010 were targeted.

APTIP aims "to increase the number of students involved in math, science and English Advanced Placement (AP) courses," according to a news release from Harford County Public Schools.

The release notes that  the program is set up in four tiers: teacher support, student support, incentive awards and program management.
