BELCAMP, MD — An 11-year-old girl has died after police say she was attempting to cross MD 543 Sunday night when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Dec. 28. Maryland State Patrol troopers were called to the area of northbound Riverside Parkway (MD 543) at Church Creek Road for a report of a pedestrian-involved crash.Investigators said the Jeep Grand Cherokee was northbound on MD 543 on a green light when the girl tried to cross MD 543 in the crosswalk and was hit by the SUV.No other injuries were reported at the scene, according to the Maryland State Police. The girl was flown to a local trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command, where she was pronounced dead. The Jeep's driver remained at the scene after the crash, and investigators said they do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
