Maryland Matters And UMBC To Host "Climate Calling: A Community Conversation"

Maryland Matters and the University of Maryland Baltimore County are hosting a community forum to explore the future of state climate policy with some of the state’s top officials.

The forum will connect new leaders in Gov. Wes Moore’s administration and UMBC students, whose generation stands to gain or suffer the most from climate policies for years to come.

Four Cabinet secretaries and the director of the Maryland Energy Administration are currently scheduled to appear at the May 10 event:

• Kevin Anderson, Secretary of Commerce
• Rebecca Flora, Secretary of Planning
• Serena McIlwain, Secretary of the Environment
• Paul Pinsky, Director, Maryland Energy Administration
• Paul Wiedefeld, Secretary of Transportation.

UMBC student organizations and faculty and student researchers who are working to address issues affecting our climate and environment will also participate.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UMBC University Center Ballroom.

Registration is free and snacks will be available.

This forum is part of Maryland Matters’ Climate Calling project, launched in 2021 with support from Ed Hatcher and Angie Cannon. The project seeks to analyze the state of climate change in Maryland, highlight the effects of policy decisions and explore possibilities for innovation.

The forum will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
