MD School Resource Officer Recovers Replica Gun From Student

For the second time in less than a week, a school resource officer has recovered a replica handgun at Charles County Public Schools.

MARYLAND — For the second time in less than a week, a school resource officer has recovered a replica handgun from a student attending Charles County Public Schools.

According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, a student at St. Charles High School in Waldorf showed several students what looked like a real handgun while inside the school on Monday.

Deputies said another student alerted school staff who recovered a BB gun, which resembled a real handgun.

"The school resource officer, along with school administrators, will complete an investigation," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. "The matter is being handled administratively by the Charles County Public Schools."

Three days earlier on Friday just before noon, the sheriff's office said a student at North Point High School also showed several students what appeared to be a handgun while inside the school.

Another student alerted school staff who recovered an airsoft replica handgun from the student’s locker. The matter was turned over to be handled administratively by the Charles County Public Schools, the sheriff's office said.

"The Sheriff’s Office is fully committed to the safety and well-being of students and school staff and is reminding parents to talk with their children about bringing inappropriate items to school and the dangers and possible consequences of these actions," the sheriff's office said in both cases.
