Searchers In Maryland Locate Missing 10-Year-Old Swimmer's Body

Deputies said searchers located Genesi Elizabeth Sosa-Bonilla's body close to where she was last seen in the water near Deep Point.

DEEP POINT, MD — Rescue crews have located the body of a missing 10-year-old female swimmer, the St. Mary County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

"The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office thanks all agencies and personnel involved in the search and recovery," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Deputies said searchers located Genesi Elizabeth Sosa-Bonilla's body close to where she was last seen in the water near Deep Point.

On Sunday shortly after 1 p.m. the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office along with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Coast Guard and various community members from the volunteer fire and rescue companies responded to Camp Merryelande located at 15914 Camp Merryelande Road in Piney Point, for a report of swimmers in distress.

According to the sheriff's office, two 10-year-olds and a man were in the water when the current pulled them further out into the Potomac River.

Deputies said the adult made it to shore safely, and one of the two children was rescued from the water by nearby Good Samaritans. Sosa-Bonilla's body was found the next day.
