Annapolis Councilman Calls Crystal Spring Development 'Too Big'

Councilman Chris Trumbauer said he is not in support of the current plan for Crystal Spring, a controversial development off Forest Drive in Annapolis.

The county councilman who oversees Annapolis recently weighed in on a controversial development off Forest Drive.

Anne Arundel County Councilman Chris Trumbauer (D-6th District) began his latest blog entry stipulating that he does not represent the City of Annapolis government, however most of his constituents reside in Annapolis.

Trumbauer wrote that he was not in support of the current concept plan for Crystal Spring, a proposed mixed-use development on Forest Drive between Hilltop Road and Spa Road.

"I think the scope of the current concept plan is too big and I question its consistency with the City's Comprehensive Plan," Trumbauer wrote.

Trumbauer also noted the environmental impact such a development would create in an area progressively becoming devoid of trees, as well as the traffic impact it could create on the already strained Forest Drive. He urged the developers to release to the public a traffic study that has already been conducted in relation to Crystal Spring.

"Just about anyone with a 21403 ZIP code uses Forest Drive, and it's hard to imagine squeezing any more vehicles onto it without seriously affecting functionality," Trumbauer wrote.
