Annapolis Council Race Heats Up Days Before Filing Deadline

Only three races in the Annapolis City Council election were contested as of Thursday.

The deadline to file for the upcoming Annapolis City Council election ends Monday, and so far only three of the nine races are opposed.

According to the city's website, only the mayoral seat and wards 1 and 2 have more than one candidate, as of Thursday.

The following Annapolis residents have filed for candidacy in the election:

  • Robert O'Shea
  • Michael Pantelides
Ward 1 Alderman
  • Joe Budge (incumbent)
  • Thomas McCarthy
Ward 2 Alderman
  • Kurt Riegel
  • Timothy Mennuti
  • Frederick Paone (incumbent)
The remaining aldermanic seats for Wards 3-8 were unopposed as of Thursday morning. The filing deadline ends Monday at 9 p.m., but write-in candidates may still apply.

Election Day is Nov. 5. Any new elected officials will take office on Dec. 7.
