Encore Creativity for Older Adults Sings Through the Summer

Encore Creativity for Older Adults welcomes all adults 55 and older to its inaugural season of summer singing.

Older adults who love to sing can experience a new adventure this summer when the nonprofit Encore Creativity for Older Adults, the nation’s largest choral arts organization for adults 55 and older, launches its first summer session this July. The six-week rehearsal program will bring together Encore singers across the region for a community-building experience of friendship and singing. No auditions are required. Encore Creativity for Older Adults is pleased to welcome all older adults interested in singing to the inaugural summer season in Annapolis, MD and Fairfax, VA. The summer session’s theme, “community-building in song”, will delight both new and returning Encore singers to a friendly and warm musical setting. No prior experience with singing is necessary to join. Rehearsals begin on July 17, 2023 and will run through late August.

The Annapolis ensembles, led by conductor Stephen Harouff, will meet on Mondays at Maryland Hall, 801 Chase St, Annapolis, MD 21401. The Fairfax, VA programs will be conducted by David Lang, and meet on Tuesdays at St. George’s United Methodist Church, 4910 Ox Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030. The Chorale programs meet in the morning from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Encore ROCKS, ensembles singing choral arrangements of classic rock songs, will meet from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

Encore chorales will sing uplifting renditions of choral favorites, such as Gloria (from Mass in F) and Down By the Riverside. Encore ROCKS singers will reflect the season of summer with arrangements of Summer In The City by Lovin’ Spoonful and A Hard Day’s Night by The Beatles. Encore programs promise to light up the season with a joyful morning and afternoon of singing for all older adults.
