About 171,694 voters cast their ballots in Anne Arundel County, representing a turnout that was above the state average.

In Anne Arundel County, 49.15 percent of registered voters turned out for the election, versus 44.72 percent across Maryland.

Absentee ballots must still be counted, a process that will get underway in the coming days. There were more than 5,333 absentee ballots sent in Anne Arundel County, state election officials reported.

Official results will be certified by local boards, then state officials before they are delivered under seal on Dec. 10, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections.
