Maryland Day Events + Farm Animal Tour + Women’s Military History

Maryland Day will bring ship tours and free museum visits. Other upcoming events will explore farm animals and women's military history.

MARYLAND — Maryland Day is almost here, bringing plenty of opportunities to explore the state and study its history. Other upcoming events include farm animal and women's military history tours.

"Maryland Day

Maryland Day commemorates the colonists’ first landfall in Maryland on St. Clement’s Island, on 25 March 1634. You are invited to celebrate the founding of Maryland at the state’s birthplace. St. Clement’s Island Museum will offer a commemorative event and a full day of fun, including free museum admission, kids’ activities, free water taxi rides, lighthouse tours, a food truck and special exhibits. The following weekend, celebrate Maryland Day in the state capital, Annapolis. Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks is offering free admission on the weekend of April 1-2 to Fort Smallwood Park, Jug Bay Wetlands, Kinder Farm Park and Quiet Waters Park, and deck tours of skipjack Wilma Lee while it's docked at Annapolis City Dock on April 1, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. More Anne Arundel County events"

"Heritage Breed Livestock Tour

This is a great opportunity for the whole family to get up close and personal with the endangered heritage breed livestock of Piscataway Park. You’ll meet cows, sheep, hogs and poultry and discover the role they play in saving the planet and preserving biodiversity. April 1, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Piscataway Park, Accokeek, MD. "From Washerwomen to WACs: Women's History at Fort Washington

Women's History Month is the perfect occasion to explore the untold stories of the women who lived and worked at Fort Washington. Join a National Park Service ranger to learn about the laundresses of the 19th century, the first women paid by the US military and the 67th Women's Army Corps stationed at Fort Washington during World War II. Staff and volunteers will dress in historic clothing to chat about these historic women. Try your hand at doing laundry Civil-War style and examine the suitcase of a member of the WACs. "5th Annual Delmarva Heritage Festival

This annual festival celebrates the rich duck decoy and hunting tradition of the Eastern Shore. The festival attracts blue ribbon carvers, and attendees can enjoy carving demonstrations, [a] youth duck calling competition, oyster sandwiches and other local fare. Free admission. "Early Blooms, Songbirds, & Spring Frogs Soup 'n Walk

Celebrate the arrival of spring, mingle with like-minded spirits and enjoy some light lunch afterwards. The arboretum docent naturalist will guide the group in listening for early songbirds and spring frogs while searching for early purple, pink and white blooms.
