Mayor, Coalition Want to 'Turn Down Temperature' On Annapolis Development

Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen said both parties were trying to lower the temperature after a developer pulled plans to redevelop the former Fawcett Boating Supply site.

A meeting between the mayor and a group that helped to scuttle a developer's plans to redevelop a key downtown property was "productive," the mayor said Wednesday.

Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen was tight-lipped on the details of a Tuesday meeting with leaders of the Save Annapolis Coalition. However, he seemed positive on the outcome.

"We had a positive discussion," Cohen said. "But we both agreed that's all we would say right now. We are trying to turn down the temperature a little bit."

The meeting occurred a few hours after Cohen issued a statement Tuesday regarding the fallout of the 110 Compromise St. redevelopment plan, in which he said the group had played "on emotions and hyperbole to simply reject any change."

Cohen was joined by the city's Planning and Zoning Director Jon Arason, but he did not disclose whether the subject of the two-hour meeting was over zoning or the loss of the 110 Compromise St. developer.

Save Annapolis Coalition spokeswoman Heather Ford said the group planned to issue a statement on the meeting with the mayor soon, but declined to comment on the specifics as of noon Wednesday.
