Moms Breastfeed En Masse at Annapolis Mall

In total, 132 infants and toddlers nursed at once at the Annapolis Mall on Saturday.

More than 130 moms nursed their children together in a cluster at the Annapolis Mall on Saturday in a worldwide show of support for the third-annual Big Latch On event.

As the clock struck 10:30 a.m., moms latched their children onto breast and raised their hands, indicating to the event organizers that they were nursing. At the peak of the event, 132 infants and toddlers were nursing at once.

Event organizer Katie Durkin, of Bowie, said the Big Latch On in Annapolis was just one of dozens of similar breastfeeding events held at the same time across the world. The roughly one minute long event

"Everything else that we do is community support—moms meeting other nursing moms, and some great door prizes from local businesses," Durkin said.

Each registered nursing mom was given a raffle ticket for one of dozens of prizes with a nursing theme, from wipe warmers to cloth diaper accessories donated by national and local companies.
