Annapolis, MD (September 4, 2024) — The Annapolis Democratic Central Committee (ADCC) selected Harry Huntley as Ward One Alderman. The ADCC held a virtual candidate forum on Tuesday, September 4 to choose a replacement for former Alderwoman Eleanor Tierney. Tierney stepped down on September 1, 2024 in order to relocate to Cape Cod with her family. Huntley will serve the remainder of Tierney’s 14-month term. Regular municipal elections will take place in 2025.

Alderman Huntley will be administered the Oath of Office by Mayor Buckley at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024 in City Council Chambers as part of the regular meeting agenda.

"Starting September 9, I will hit the ground running, spend the next 14 months working tirelessly to champion Ward 1, and run right through the tape to earn every resident's vote next November, "Huntley said.

Huntley was selected from a field of five candidates. To qualify, candidates were required to be a registered voter in the City for at least a year and to have lived in Ward One for at least six months. Candidates were encouraged to submit letters of support ahead of time. Huntley had support letters from Mayor Gavin Buckley, six of the eight city council members - including Alderwoman Tierney - and County Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien, in addition to residents and small business owners.

In the virtual meeting, members of the ADCC asked questions, which each candidate answered, round-robin. During the four-hour virtual meeting, personal, legislative and priority issues were addressed, including public water access, land use, permits and planning, City Dock, business and more. Huntley won with seven votes in his favor (one abstention) of the nine-member committee.

"I'm grateful and honored to have been selected as the next Ward 1 alderman through such an open and transparent process,” Huntley said. “Thank you to the Central Committee members and everyone committed enough to city government to spend almost four hours on Zoom last night.”
