The ouster of the Republican Speaker was a truly missed opportunity by the Democratic leadership especially by the House Minority Speaker of Hakeem Jeffries. Jeffries cheerleading for a unanimous Democratic defeat in the house against McCarthy lacked nuance and wisdom and continues the partisan firewall politics in the Congress
This was a transformative event that required the insertion of country over the usual and destructive partisan politics that is suffocating America and those who harbor independent opinions and narratives
The Elected Democratic members of Congress who wanted to support McCarthy with reasoned analysis and perspectives were silenced by the Jefferies and the mob politics of partisanship
Americans need a public lesson on compromise and the capacity to find value in one’s adversaries was lost here and this does not bode well for an America that desperately needs paths and footprints towards compromise and public acts of democratic integrity that is not politics as usual
