Police: Attempted Purse Snatcher Flees Annapolis Mall

A woman tried to grab a purse from a customer at the J.C. Penney in Annapolis, then fled the area, police said.

Authorities are looking for a suspect involved in an attempted robbery at the Westfield Annapolis Mall on Wednesday.

Anne Arundel County police arrived at the mall at 2:25 p.m. for a report of an attempted robbery. Officers spoke with a 45-year-old woman who said she was shopping at J.C. Penney when she was approached by a woman who began talking to her, "making random comments," according to a police report.

The woman then stood very close and grabbed the victim's purse from her shoulder. However, the victim held tightly to the purse, and refused to surrender it.

Unable to take the purse, the suspect ran from the store toward the parking lot, according to the report.

When police arrived, they requested additional officers and canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Anne Arundel County police described the suspect as a black female, approximately 30-40 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 inches tall, with an average build, and missing the lower portion of her right ear.
