Remaining 7 Market House Vendors to Open in August

A city official said the seven vendors will open their doors all at once in August.

The long-dormant Market House is a month away from fully opening its doors, city officials have said.

Amsterdam Falafelshop, the first of the new tenants for the newly renovated Market House, opened on June 20. But work on the rest of the building was still underway, without a firm date in mind, officials said at the time.

The Capital-Gazette reported that during a City Council work session on Thursday, a public works engineer said the remaining seven vendors have chosen to open all at once in August, instead of individually.

The remaining vendors are:

  • Firenze Gelateria
  • Hard Bean Cafe
  • Carl's Corned Beef & Deli
  • Annapolis Organic Market
  • Yellowfin Seafood
  • Midship Fresh Bar
  • Good Life Smoothie Bar
When the Market House reopens in August, it will be more than two years after it was opened to short-term lease vendors in 2011. It closed in December 2011 for more renovation work.

Throughout that renovation, Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen was firm on a spring opening. However, only Amsterdam Falafelshop met that deadline, and it was a private tasting for press and city officials. Its public opening was not until a few days into summer.

Cohen has said he would "walk the plank" into Spa Creek for not meeting his original deadline of opening the building by the October 2012 boat show. No date has been set for that feat, however.
