In-School Vision, Hearing Screenings For Anne Arundel Students

Several Anne Arundel County schools will conduct mandated vision and hearing screenings in December.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD – Anne Arundel County Department of Health vision and hearing technicians and school nurses conduct mandated vision and hearing screenings in public schools for children in preschool, kindergarten, first and eighth grade, and for students new to Anne Arundel County schools. Special education students receiving speech therapy may also be recommended for screening.

Department of Health vision and hearing technicians also administer vision and hearing screenings at private schools, nurseries and daycare programs to ensure that the appropriate children are screened. Children who wear glasses should bring them to school on the day of the screening.

Students in the following schools and programs will be screened in December:

  • December 1 – Chesapeake Montessori School, Mayo Nursery School, St. Anne’s School of Annapolis
  • December 4 – Childtime of Hanover
  • December 5 and 6 – Severna Park Middle
  • December 6 – Jones Elementary
  • December 7 – Corkran Middle, J. Albert Adams Academy, Judy Center at Hilltop Elementary
  • December 11 – Benfield Elementary, Chesapeake High
  • December 12 and 13 – Nantucket Elementary
  • December 14 – Central Elementary
  • December 15 – Beaver Creek Childcare and Kindergarten, Magothy Cooperative Preschool and Kindergarten
  • December 19 – Annapolis Middle
  • December 20 – Goddard School of Hanover
  • December 20 and 21 – Glen Burnie Park Elementary
  • December 21 – South Shore Elementary
  • December 22 – Calvary Center School, Wee Lad and Lassie Early Learning Center

Children are screened in order to detect vision or hearing problems that may impair a child’s ability to perform successfully in school. If a potential deficiency is detected, a letter is sent to the parents or legal guardians informing them of the results. The parents are advised to contact the child’s doctor for further testing and advice.
