Annapolis Democratic Central Committee Sets New Hearing Date to Select Ward One Replacement

ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 22, 2024) – The Annapolis Democratic Central Committee (ADCC) has set a hearing date of Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. to interview candidates seeking to serve the remainder of Ald. Eleanor Tierney’s Ward One City Council term, which will expire in December of 2025. The hearing will be open to the public, according to ADCC Chair Josh Falk. Alderwoman Tierney, who is relocating out of the area, submitted her resignation in late July and notified that her last day serving as Ward One Alderwoman will be September 1.

Falk reports that, so far, five candidates have submitted information to be considered. A link to virtually attend the public hearing will be posted on the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee website in the coming days: www.annapolisdems.org.

The committee pushed the date back to allow the seat to be vacated at the time of the hearing and ADCC voting. With the previous date of August 26, the seat would not technically have been vacant. The seat must be vacated before the ADCC can make an appointment.

After the ADCC sends a name to the Annapolis City Clerk, the selected individual will be sworn in by the Mayor and seated at the next meeting of the council. The Mayor will make appointment decisions regarding standing committee assignments at that time.
