2 Annapolis High Students Named National Merit Scholars
Annapolis High students Sarah Baker and Cailin Oakes became National Merit Scholars.

Two recent Annapolis High School graduates were named National Merit Scholars for their academic performance.
Sarah Baker, who will study applied mathematics at Claremont McKenna College in California, and Cailin Oakes, who will study earth science at the University of Minnesota, both received the designation, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
Three other Anne Arundel County students also received the designation recently:
- Evan Uthus of Broadneck High School, who will study anthropology at the University of Maryland
- Amelia Hallworth of South River High School, who will study epidemiology at the University of Maryland
- Xuefei Nou of Old Mill High School, who will study bio-engineering at the University of Maryland
In total, 190 colleges and universities subsidized nearly 4,300 awards nationwide this year, and 11 National Merit Scholars were named for the class of 2013 across the county, according to the press release.
