10 Places to Beat the Heat in Maryland

We asked Patch Facebook users across Maryland where they go to cool off when temperatures are high. Take a look at the top ten answers.

This week offered little reprieve in terms of hot weather with temperatures hanging around the mid to high-eighties. The relatively mild dip in temps only served as a precursor to this weekend, when temperatures are expected to near 100 degrees.

Don't fear. When temps creep closer to triple digits this weekend, you can monopolize the warm weather and treat yourself to a dip in one of Maryland's favorites beaches or pools.

We asked Patch readers across Maryland where they go to cool off during heat waves. We rounded up the top reader picks below.

1. Conowingo Swimming Pool, 4948 Conowingo Rd, Darlington, MD: "It has improved so much. I love what the new owners have done with the place! You can spend all day there relaxing and cooling off in the pool all while enjoying the backdrop of the Susquehanna, Conowingo Dam and the wonderful bald eagles flying above you!"

The pool is open from 10 a.m. t0 8 p.m. daily, and admission is $5, or $4 after 4 p.m. without membership.

2. Lochearn Community Club, 3600 Campfield Rd, Gwynn Oak, MD: Opened in 1957, the club offers a 25 yard competition pool, picnic tables, grills and volleyball and basketball courts. Membership is required, and hours are from noon to 9 p.m. (for July).

3. Padonia Park Club, 12006 Jenifer Rd, Cockeysville, MD: The club features day camps for the kiddies as well as swim lessons. The club is also listed as one of the top catering companies in Baltimore.

4. Gunpowder Falls State Park, 7200 Graces Quarters Rd, Middle River, MD: As one of Maryland's largest state parks, Gunpowder Falls offers a swimming beach, 120 miles of trails and canoeing/kayaking streams.

5. Falling Branch, (Kilgore Falls), 1026 Falling Branch Rd, Pylesville, MD: Kilgore Falls in Harford County was added to Rocks State Park in the early 90's and is Maryland's second tallest free-falling waterfall. There is also a hiking trail, and leashed pets are allowed.

6. Perry Hall Swim Club, 4100 Cliffvale Rd, Baltimore, MD: The Perry Hall Swim Club has been a part of "the neighborhood since 1960." Equipped with a snack bar, pavilion and grills, this club offers an affordable way for families to spend a hot day. The pool is open seven days a week and closes at 9 p.m.

7. South Carroll Swim Club, 1900 W Liberty Rd, Westminster, MD: Located in Carroll County, this pool is only available to those with membership. The club boasts a banquet hall as well as a Division 1 swim team. Pool hours are noon to 8:30 p.m. during the summertime.

8. Fallston Club, 1912 Fallston Rd, Fallston, MD: Family movie nights, tennis courts and Red Cross certified swim lessons are among the amenties available at Fallston Club. The club is open to members and their registered guests, with the pool being open to 10 p.m. during summer weekends.

9. Valleybrook Country Club, 1810 Valleybrook Dr, Kingsville, MD: Open seven days a week until 8 p.m., Valleybrook Country Club offers both tennis and swimming lessons as well as partial membership rates for those families on a budget.

10. Ellen E. Linson Splash Park, 5211 Campus Dr, College Park, MD: Farmers Markets, Doggie Dive-Ins and free swimming Fridays and Saturdays for teens are among the events featured at the splash park. Located off the Green Line, amenities include 25-meter lap lanes, water slides and outdoor basketball courts.
