ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The curbside collection day changed recently for some Anne Arundel County residents.

  • Glen Burnie
  • Millersville
  • Pasadena
  • Severna Park
  • Odenton
  • Gambrills

A total of 6,468 households have a new collection day, the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works told Patch. That's 3.7% of the residences that the DPW serves.

The new contracts replace expiring deals that had been in place for 10 years.

"Improvements to collection routing were incorporated into new contracts to address growth and development that has occurred over the past decade. This is the result of adjusting service area boundaries slightly, or adjusting the number of homes on a collection day within a service area to balance daily work," DPW spokesperson Matt Diehl told Patch in an email.

The DPW sent two rounds of postcards to affected homes. The first batch arrived the week of March 3, and the second came the week of March 17.

The DPW also shared the news on social media.

Diehl added that:

  • "Day Changes are necessary for route efficiency
  • "Efficient routes improve customer service when investigating complaints.
  • "Implementing day changes on the starting date of the new collection contracts could cause several weeks of collection disruptions and delays. Therefore, the Curbside Collection Team will focus on implementing the day changes on March 31st and the start-up for the new collection contracts later this year in phases.
  • "Customers can report a concern or missed collection by visiting www.aacounty.org clicking on 'Issues & Records Requests' then clicking on 'Report a Concern' or by contacting our Customer Service Team at 410-222-6100, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
  • "These types of changes have been necessary in the past, and will be required in the future. We cannot entertain requests to 'switch back' individual households or communities."
