EDGEWATER, MD — A popular crab house appeared to abruptly close Tuesday in Edgewater.

A since-deleted post on Bayside Inn's Facebook page seemed to announce the restaurant and bar's closure. Upset customers left comments, and the post was deleted hours later.

Workers reported that they were given no notice. A cardboard sign only saying "Closed" was taped to the front door at 1246 Mayo Road on Wednesday. The phone number listed on Bayside's Facebook profile was not in service when Patch called later in the afternoon.

Paul Carlow established Bayside in 1971, but the restaurant transitioned leadership after the 85-year-old's death in June 2023.

On Tuesday, the now-deleted closure message was posted on Edgewater resident Dawn Green’s Facebook page. The post had a signature line attributing the statement to "Lani Carlow and Family."
