Chesapeake Bay Bridge Westbound Lane To Close For Construction
Work will begin Sept. 24 on the highly anticipated $27 million Chesapeake Bay Bridge rehabilitation project.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Work on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is anticipated to begin Tuesday, Sept. 24, with no two-way traffic operations and the westbound lane closed, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
The state anticipated starting rehabilitation work on the Bay Bridge after Labor Day, but that was delayed. The closures are part of a two-year $27 million project designed to rehabilitate the westbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Starting in October, the right lane will be closed permanently through April 16, with restrictions lifted for the Thanksgiving holiday. Then from April 16 through May 20, the westbound right lane will be closed continuously on weekdays. All lanes are expected to be open during next summer’s travel season. The lane closures resume beginning in fall of 2020 into spring of 2021.
