Committee Tasked with Finding Next Schools Superintendent

Anne Arundel County School Board members will soon begin the search for the next schools superintendent through a three-person committee.

A three-person committee has been charged with overseeing the search for the Anne Arundel County Public School System's new superintendent.

The commitee is composed of three board members: Patricia Nalley, Kevin Jackson and Stacy Korbelak as chairman. The group will meet over the coming year to identify and narrow candidates the board will then vote on.

“This committee will spearhead the process that will ultimately result in the appointment of the person who will lead our children forward over the coming years,” School Board President Teresa Milio Birge said. “It is important that this process involves constituents from every part of our county and who represent the variety of interests and issues that our school system must address, and our Board is committed to hearing from them all.”

Former schools superintendent Kevin Maxwell left the school system at the end of July. Interim superintendent Mamie J. Perkins has a contract with the school system to serve as head of schools until June 30.

According to a press release, the board has not yet decided on the details involved with such a search, or whether it will contract with a third party to facilitate that search.
