County Government Phones Falling Apart, Says Exec

Some phones at the Arundel Center are so old that buttons are falling off of them, according to the county executive.

Getting hang-ups when calling the Anne Arundel County Government's offices? It's not a fluke, said the county executive.

Executive Laura Neuman posted on Twitter Monday asking taxpayers to be patient as they work to fix or replace phones that are 23 years old at the Arundel Center in Annapolis.

Replacing ailing technology has been a highlight of Neuman's term since taking office in February.

When she first walked in her office, she said the room had no computer—or even access to the Internet, for that matter. But within a day, she had a computer and was online. She's also the first Anne Arundel county executive to have a Twitter account, which she posts to daily.

Among other improvements to the Arundel Center, Neuman is focusing on upgrading and replacing the existing technology, much of which she said was from the 1980s.
