County To Appeal Decision Regarding Sheriff's Raises

Anne Arundel County officials said they will appeal an arbitrator's decision forcing them to honor pay raises for sheriff's deputies dating back to 2009, the Baltimore Sun reported. 

According to the Sun, Acting County Executive John Hammond said the arbitrator made an error when he accused the county of punishing the deputies union when it held back raises. 

The county initially approved raises running from 2007-10, but later cut the raises in 2009, citing the bad economy. The deputies challenged the decision and the Court of Special Appeals ruled in their favor. An arbitrator than backed that court's decision.
