Democrats Tap Shaneka Henson For Vacant Senate District 30 Seat

ANNE ARUNDEL, MD — Shaneka Henson has been tapped by the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee as the nominee to fill the vacant seat in Senate District 30, according to a statement on Facebook on Saturday night.
The committee is expected to forward her name to Gov. Wes Moore for appointment to the Senate.
Henson has been tapped to replace State Sen. Sarah Elfreth, who represented District 30, which covers the Annapolis peninsula and southern Anne Arundel County.

Elfreth was sworn into District 3 in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday.
In a post to her Facebook page, Henson said, she is "deeply honored" by the committee’s decision to select her, "and by the overwhelming support from our community."

"This moment is not just about one person — it’s about all of us," she wrote. "No matter who you are, where you come from, or what your beliefs may be, I am committed to representing every voice and building a stronger, more inclusive future together."
"Our diversity is our strength, and unity is our path forward," she continued. "Let’s come together, heal divisions, and continue the work to make District 30 a place where everyone belongs and thrives."
She concluded by saying, "We’re all in this together."
Henson represents District 30A in the House of Delegates, the lower chamber in the Maryland General Assembly.
In their statement, the Democratic committee said it wanted to thank "all the applicants for their dedication to the rigorous nomination process, and to the community for their support," as well as the Anne Arundel County Public Library for its "generosity in hosting" the public meeting at the Michael Busch Annapolis Branch.
