Don't Swim At This Pasadena Beach, Alert Says After Bacteria Test

Bacteria levels are high at this Pasadena beach, health officials said. They urged residents not to go swimming here for a few days.

PASADENA, MD — The Anne Arundel County Department of Health on Wednesday issued a no-swimming advisory for Upper Magothy Community Beach in Pasadena. The beach had high bacterial levels in its water samples, officials noted.

Leaders said warm water temperatures, rainwater runoff, waterfowl and tidal action could have caused the bacterial spike. The water should return to normal within a day or two, the alert added. The department of health will collect water samples and lift its warning when the bacteria counts fall to acceptable levels.

Swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and other direct water contact are not allowed until then. The county posted signs at the Magothy River beach to warn visitors. Anyone who touches the water should immediately wash their clothes and take a warm shower with soap.
