New Food Pantry Opens, Offers Free Groceries In Anne Arundel County
A new food pantry opened this week in Anne Arundel County. The site offers free groceries to residents in need.

PASADENA, MD — A new food pantry named Y Fresh Mart opened Wednesday at The Y in Pasadena. The site offers free groceries like:
- Canned goods
- Bread
- Cereal
- Meat
- Rice
- Pasta
- Fresh produce
- And more
This is The Y’s second food pantry in the region. The first is at The Y in Druid Hill. The Pasadena location works with Caring Cupboard, the Maryland Food Bank and McCormick Flavor for Life.
The Y is a network of gyms and family centers with several locations across the state.

The organization said it has distributed nearly 1.2 million meals to central Maryland families since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Maryland Food Bank study recently found that one-third of state residents reported that they have experienced hunger or food insecurity, The Y said in a press release. That's up from the 21 percent battling food insecurity in 2013.

"Healthy living begins with reliable access to healthy food and is a cornerstone principle of the Y’s values and mission," said John Hoey, the president and CEO of The Y in Central Maryland. "We look forward to working together with our generous partners to continue to help address the vital food needs of the communities we serve."
The Y Fresh Mart in Pasadena is open on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at 26 Magothy Beach Road.
