Governor's Bridge Road Bridge Remains Closed, Repairs May Begin Next Week
Prince George's County expects spending authorization for the repairs to come through in the next seven days.

After being closed for nearly six months, an reopening date may finally be in sight for Governor's Bridge Road Bridge.
The bridge was closed in April after inspections deemed it unsafe. The Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation inspects all bridges 20 feet or more in length every two years to ensure they are safe for travel. It has remained closed these past several months as the county worked to identify the scope of the problem, and then to send the repair contract through legal review. Â
Documentation to authorize funding for the repairs has been submitted to the administrative review committee, according to Carol Terry, spokesperson for DWPT.
"Once the Department of Public Works and Transportation receives the spending authorization, we will move forward in issuing the Notice to Proceed (NTP) for the project," Terry wrote in an email.
Terry expects that the authorization will come through in the next seven days. Once that happens, work can begin. Repairs will likely take at least one month to complete, Terry said.Â
The cost of the repairs is $115,000. The bill will be split 50/50 between Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties, since the two counties share ownership of the bridge.
