Hazmat Unit Responds to False Alarm at Park

A worker was exposed to some white powder—later determined to be asbestos—at Downs Park in Pasadena. His health was not in jeopardy, according to the fire department.

A hazardous materials unit responded to a park in Pasadena on Monday after a worker discovered some white powder, but it posed no threat to the community.

Division Chief Michael Cox of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said crews arrived at about noon Monday to the John H. Downs Memorial Park after a report from a worker who was drilling a safe. The worker discovered some white powder, and called the fire department.

The hazardous materials unit determined that the white powder was asbestos, and did not pose an immediate threat to anyone's safety.
