Large Sanitary Sewer Overflow Prompts Water Quality Alert
A sewage spill has prompted officials to issue an emergency closing for the Deep Run tributary and the headwaters of the Patapsco River.
LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD — A sewage spill at a privately owned pumping station in Linthicum Heights has prompted county officials to issue an emergency closing for the Deep Run tributary at 2304 Furnace Ave. and the headwaters of the Patapsco River to Hammonds Ferry Road.
According to a news release from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health on Monday, the affected area has been treated with lime and is closed for direct water contact.
The emergency closing order is in effect until Jan. 4.

Staff with the Department of Health will continue to evaluate the water quality in the area and provide updates.
People who come in contact with the affected water are urged to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed, the news release said.
